Child Development - File History

This piece is a file history log of a child's development. It's written in a binary format with the two tone background.


The two timelines at the bottom are to show the age of the child at the corresponding entry, and as a design feature the file size at that point is in the second timeline.

Encryption Parenting

This is to do with the idea that from birth parents encrypt data into their children, starting with such basic things as their name.


The idea that parents can also issue a child with a date of birth is somewhat a futuristic idea, so it may in the future be possible.


As a child grows up parents 'code' into them some 'tools' they will need as they grow up. This is illustrated in this web-like submission form.


Going with the idea of encryption this form is very digital, and has a padlock by the SUBMIT button to show encryption, just as you see in many places online. I think that this whole concept is a possible future way of living for humans.

The idea here is that the data (red dots) in encrypted inside firewalls and other computer security systems (black dots). In an arrow shape, it is simulated that this data is in motion or moving, processing and being accessed by people around the world.

The 'Hacking' Of Secret Information

The hacking of secret knowledge, information or data is when an intruder gains access from their personal efforts to something which they legally should not be able to see. This is obviously illegal.

It's like someone being in your house for two days and you not knowing about them, then suddenly they take all your the stuff in your house, and you realise you've been 'hacked'. This is physical hacking, as opposed to digital hacking, although they are essentially the same process.

Secret/Hidden Information

There are lots of ways I can explore the idea of hidden knowledge or information. This militarised font is commonly associated with like a 'top secret stamp', something you see used in movies to get across the message. Usually written in red so it is taken seriously, and with caution.

A padlock is an obvious method of security. Used by the general population to lock their garden shed, it doesn't provide the best style of security. The golden padlock is more associated with computer security, whereas the blue padlock is a drawing of a real 3D one.

Computer security is typically based on encryption. Various chunks of personal information are stored in databases which only a computer itself can read and edit. This way no one person can access your information, and it stays safe and secure. There are obviously cases where this information is breached by so called 'hackers'. This is where a human can view the data encrypted.

For example, the recent case where Sony servers which hold the personal details of PS3 users was breached, allowing open access to the hacker. This is an example of secret information intrusion.

Similarly phone hacking is the intrusion into peoples personal conversations, where information may change hands verbally.

Secret data is also stored in us. Our finger prints and DNA are unique, and if someone was to obtain that they could use it for all sorts of purposes. They could commit crimes and frame you.

We also store another kind of secret information - in our brains. Human beings can be quite secretive at times. They can store information that can change things for other people, or affect entire populations. I think this is the kind of secret knowledge that ties in most with the idea of the Illuminati.

God Save The Queen

In the album cover by Jamie Reid, "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN" is written across the Queen's mouth and eyes, almost silencing her. This portrays the Queen in a negative way, which may ask why we need her and questions why we should 'save her'.

Safe Wheel Font

Below the surface Iluminati has more meaning. I found a definition of the word to the left. It mentions the possession of claim to superior enlightenment.

Essentially it is the claim to secret knowledge or secret information. This information is clearly not something they want to 'leak' or be shared with us mere humans.

Some people may choose to store valuable or 'secret' objects or information in a safe. The handle is a recognisable object of a safe.

For this font style, I recreated the safe handle, and shaped the letterforms from taking out segments from the spaces between the individual bars. The handles which stick out of the edges go well. A safe is a good example of safety and security.

Future Parents

This info graphic shows the immediate family of the Royals (the Windsor family tree). It shows the children of the current monarch, the Queen, and the breakdown of their individual families.

The heir to the throne obviously lies in the red section, with Prince Charles and his family. This makes them future parents. The future parents of the United Kingdom.

The graphic style of thie piece is like a layered cake, or a pyramid. The most relevant figure on top, and then going down in layers to the next person and so on. They will only work their way up to the throne, although not all will get there. A bit like life huh?

Then, the different slices of the cake are the different colours representing the different children of the queen. Finally, each sibling's spouse of their children is on the outside of the relevant segment.

The Illuminati Conspiracy

For decades the rumour of a group called the Illuminati has been talked about across the world. This group is thought to be constructed by powerful and rich families around the globe - the Royal Family being one of them. I am trying out some ideas with a font based on this idea, something that resembles the Illuminati and maybe even their logo.

Golden Eagle

The Royal Family have heavy German roots. This is what I have illustrated in this piece. The golden eagle is the national bird of Germany, which is the main piece. This is coloured 'Royal blue'. The crown is the link with the Queen, and the Nazi symbol not only says German, but as Nazis were a common western enemy during World War II, it says Anti-Royalist.

Mother & Father Logos

Here I designed a logo to show the idea of a mother and a father doing their jobs in a happy family.

I think the above logo does its job well, but the shape of the font is a little too harsh to show a 'happy family'.

This logo works better, as the font is rounded, and is much easier on the eye.

First Idea

My idea right now is to do something cultural. Technically, the Queen is the parent of England (or the UK).

As the parent of the UK, she represents us. Not only her, but the entire Royal Family represent us. This is kind of extended parenting. It's like we all have an entire family of parents. 

The St. Georges flag also represents England. Not in the same way as the Queen though - the flag is a symbol to represent the country. 

Initial Thoughts & Ideas

Parents is a very broad topic. When you say parents, your first thought is your personal mother and father. Of course that is an area of this subject, but it expands far beyond this. To be a parent is to be not only a creator, but a leader, and guide and a support figure. For example, Apple make computers, therefore they are the computers parent. They guide it through its life with updates and patches to keep it safe and secure. When others throughout the world try to influence it with viruses, trojans and other harmful information, they update the computer to put it right, just as a mother or a father would try their best to correct a misguided child.


As a creator, you are a parent. Your creations - be they physical like architecture, or digital like a logo - are reliant on you to guide them through the world, and put them to good use. You may also be further responsible for these pieces in the future. You are also responsible for your actions in life. Anything you do can reflect you in different ways, and earn yourself a reputation. You are the parent of that reputation.


There are many iconic figures in the world, past and present. They are known for some of the greatest discoveries and enlightenments in history. For example, you might say that Martin Luther King is the parent of black freedom. Sir Isaac Newton is the parent of gravity. Michael Jackson is the parent, or as he was commonly known as the king of pop.


Equally as there are parents of good, there are also parents of world changing events which weren't so favoured by the rest of the world. Some might say that the East is the parent of communism. Living in the western world, communism isn't favoured. With disagreement  sometimes comes war, and with war, there is a good chance that there will come death. An executioner could be called the parent of death. This is a very interesting one as being a parent usually springs the idea of new life, and with death usually comes the end of a life.


Arguably the biggest parent of all is nature. According to science, it alone is the creator of the core elements of everything we know of and see today, including life. Humanity would then be like the strange cousin of the world, by taking the things which nature provided and actually making something with them. I guess nature is the parent of humanity, and humanity is the parent of technology.


As opposed to scientific views, there's religion. If you're a religious person, then supposedly your creator or parent is your higher power, or your God, and your guide through life is your holy book.
